Congratulation and well done to those of your who have made it real :-)
Check the norus-science.com for more information and updates.

If any of your have stuff interesting for the norus website don't hesitate to send it to me, e.g. data or experiences from the Rutgers summer course or your guys deploying the glider(s) in Isfjorden.

Erlend, great to hear good news from the US. Keep posting about the wonders of the world in the sky...

- enjoy the summer everybody, Kasper

NORUS at the Summer Institute

Hi everyone!

Just thought I'd drop a few words on what's going on, since, as some of you know, I'm in the US east coast these days.

The first two weeks here I've spent taking a course at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. It's been a great course in retrieving and analyzing satellite remote sensing, held by Bruce Monger. So over the last 14 days I've learned how to download and process all kinds of data connected with biological oceanography, that is ocean color data, SST data, global wind data and sea surface altimetry and geostrophic currents. This means I now have the capability to use satellite data in a much more sensible way regarding our glider, AUV and hyperspectral imager. Still a novice, I need training on smaller projects so let me know if you have ideas for combining this kind of data!

Upon finishing the course, I then headed south to New Jersey and Rutgers University, where I am the time of writing. The Summer Insitute lead by Oscar and Scott has students working on different challenges regarding navigation and technicalities with the glider - mainly focussing on the trans-atlantic glider mission. The plan is to spend my days here trying to suck up as much information I can about anything from retrieving and using the glider data to going out and participate in the deployment of one of them. If the weather holds up, hopefully!

Okidoke, I'll try and write another entry in not too long, so you just keep refreshing this page guys!

-Erlend

Hi all, this is the start of a great journey!!!

Gear Bear

Some of my pics from Svalbard!

I just want to thank you for a great week. Plankenhorn - Background

I am a senior at Cal Poly and currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering. I have been working with Dr. Chris Clark and Scott Layton on the OceanServer Iver2 AUV for the NORUS project. For the initial NORUS trip, I plan on getting as much feedback as possible about how I should improve the interface with the AUV. I want to eventually get operating the AUV as seemless as possible so that instead of a technological barrier for biologists, it becomes an easily usable tool that can improve research techniques and the data that they are collecting.
